The House of Erasmo Il Gattamela, where born one of the biggest captains of fortune of the Middle-Age, is along the walls of the town close to Fiera Gate.
The birthplace of Erasmo da Narni called Il Gattamelata.
Born in 1370 from Paolo and mother Melania Gattello, Erasmo from Narni was educated at the school of Braccio da Montone.
Passed to the service of Pope Martino V until 1434, then to the service of the Venice Republic. Guided the war against the Visconti and in 1439 became general captain of the Serenissima.
At his death was buried into the Cathedral of Sant’Antonio in Padova , where in his memory was built the famous equestrian statue of Donatello, which is the most beautiful statue of the Renaissance.
On the facade of his house in Narni, along the homonymous street , dedicated to him , a plaque remembers the phrase Narnia me genuit / Gattamelata fui.
